Free Sundays at the Galleria Borghese

Italian state museums admit visitors free on the first Sunday of the month, under the Domenica al Museo scheme — and free admission does not remove the compulsory reservation. You still need a booked slot with your name on it, the shift is still capped at 180 people, and those particular slots go fastest of all. The park is free every Sunday and every other day, and needs no booking whatsoever.

Free is not the same as open

This is the misunderstanding that costs people the most. Domenica al Museo removes the price of the ticket. It does not remove the reservation, the timed shift or the capacity cap. A visitor who walks up on a free Sunday without a booking is in exactly the same position as one who walks up on any other day: outside.

If the free Sunday is the only reason you are going, have a fallback ready. A paid shift on another day costs €18 all-in, the last entrance of the day costs €11 plus the €2 fee, and the park costs nothing at any hour of any day.
